Ben Stien Expelled

I had a wonderful opportunity last week to see a producer’s cut viewing of the documentary Ben Stein Expelled No Intelligence Allowed.

No matter your personal belief, I encourage you to attend the film when it opens in April to see Ben Stein’s scientific journey through the theories of intelligent design and Darwinism.

While any discussion or movie on these topics is bound to be biased, I am a fan of Ben Stein, so that’s reason enough to check out the movie.

Jim is right. Bias does exist. And it exists, I am sure, on both sides (Darwinism and ID) of the issue. Hopefully there can be an honest evaluation of the evidence/facts. There certainly is no reason to fear the truth… whatever it may be.

I cannot comment on the movie, as I have not yet been able to see it. But I can comment on the trailer (there is a link here: http://www.expelledthemovie.com/playground.php ) In particular, the rejection of an editor by the scientific community because he acted outside the norms of scientific practice is a GOOD thing. Otherwise science would be a field full of charlatans. One of the things that has made science so powerful in developing our cars, computers, medicine, the houses we live in, the microwaves we cook food in, and the chairs which stop us falling to the floor when we sit down is the concept of peer review. It works. Period. It’s not victimization - it’s the scientific method. And this is not a free speech issue - people can say whatever they like, they just can’t call it good science when it’s not. Otherwise the kid in the classroom who says that rain is god’s tears could call himself a scientist, and we’d have to give him the same credibility as Ernest Rutherford. That way utter nonsense lies. I’m sorry Ben Stein has associated himself with this trailer, not just because of its misleading tone but also because of its abhorrent Nazi imagery. Seriously, Ben Stein should know better. What kind of truth is he looking for exactly - the truth of manipulation and deception? I hope not.

The difference is the kid who calls God’s tears - rain, does not have multiple degrees in the scientific field and he can not back up his assertation with evidence. Ben Stein’s movie is not about letting the “wackos” have a voice - it is about allowing all the evidence and or lack of evidence on both sides of this topic be openly and honestly discussed. Because there is a lack of evidence in the theory of evolution, and there is evidence that points to our precise ecosystems being designed. In 2001, biologists, chemists, zoologists, physicists, anthropologists, molecular and cell biologists, bioengineers, organic chemists, geologists, astrophysicists, and other scientists - with degrees from highly respected universities, published a “Scientific Dissent from Darwinisin” in a national magazine. These people are not children in grade school - they have massive degrees behind their names and they wanted the public to know that evolution is not a proven fact and the real evidence should be analysed without slanting the conclusion to match prevalient beliefs in Darwinisim.
